CINERAMA is the group formed by The Wedding Present's
David Gedge -- "one of the most consistently brilliant songwriters
in Britain." -- NME.
Their debut long player Va Va Voom was released
in 1998 to universal critical acclaim. Following the success of
Va Va Voom, Cinerama decided to set up their own label, Scopitones,
and, in 2000, went on to release four well-received singles and
a follow-up long-player Disco Volante.
Torino, the new album by Cinerama, was recorded
by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studio in Chicago and
by Dare Mason in Parr Street Studios in Cornwall, and in Liverpool.
Parr Street was also the place chosen by David Gedge's other band,
The Wedding Present, to record several of the singles used in
their record-breaking Hit Parade series.
The press response to the Disco Volante was tremendous,
and now Torino plunges the band into the even darker, more guitar-heavy
territory that fans of The Wedding Present will love and remember,
while retaining Cinerama's colorful cinematic backdrop, and is
sure to garner even more praise. One track, “Health and
Efficiency,” has already made it to No.3 in John Peel's
Festive Fifty -- which is no surprise, as the founder of BBC 1's
John Peel Program is a long-time fan of David's songwriting.
The members of Cinerama are British, American
and Finnish, and are based in Yorkshire, London, Cologne and California.
